Yeah, i bought the phone about six months ago, and to b honest i really do think it's a pile of crap, plus it costs 300 pounds, i mean, don't get me wrong at first i thought it was brilliant, but, fore some reason it wouldn't call like short numbers such as, 2345 which was my balance number so, i couldn't find out my balance also the mobile phone has no screen which i don't know if that would bother you or not. Also the phone is quite big which means it didn't fit nicely into my pocket which always meant that i knocked it off things lol. Also the talks on the phone is like english but, with a hint of spanish which kinda put me off! I really don't think that you should get this phone, also just thought you should know that you can get the nokia 6600 mobile phone for 130 pounds which i think is far better and the talks on it are much better, if your intrested in buying 6600 just go to your local vodafone store and they will let you see the phone and listen to the talks, it's worth a go and it's far cheaper and to b honest an all round better phone if you ask me, hope this helps you!
Good luck!

Yeah I saw that at a convention in NY - it's pretty small but a little wacky looking (the buttons are well-defined though so if you have trouble with small buttons then you're in luck). It has no screen and speech is more responsive than talks plus it comes out of the earpiece so you can hear it pribately. It lacks in features though - no bluetooth or anything beyond what it gives you which is an addressbook, 53 ringtones (some of which are quite silly and consist of acid loops) and I think SMS support. I think it costs $500 US so a nokia phone with talks is a much better deal since you can load your own tones if that's your thing and basically change things around and use bluetooth. With the 22 you're stuck with what they give you for the time being and that's not worth $500.

No one has really added to this thread for a while. Anyone actually have this phone now? How do you like it? I just went to www.screenlessphone.com to hear a demo. Pretty simple and basic, but pretty cool as well. A little btw, with this talks software, once you own it can you put it on any future phone? Or do you need to buy new coppies everytime you get a new phone?

Post 6 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 13-Jan-2006 2:40:29

right, here goes. talks and the oasies mobile are totally diffrent products. the oacies is made by a spanish firm, hense the rather spanish sounding voice. talks is made by another company entirely, wthe name of which I can't remember as they've recently changed it. It was bugcom, then bugcom got taken over by scansoft, now they're something else I believe. Talks is a screen reader for nokia phones and certain other symbion based phones. It is a screen reader in the true sense of text to speach. the oacies mobile phone has speach software on it, but it cannot be upgraded like talks can. re the question about the phones, you can upgrade talks on the same phone for no aditional cost, but if you want to change phones, you will need to pay for another serial number, as the talks softawre is linked to the phone via its imie number. As for the oacies phone and its features the phone in my view is crap. it feels like it's a phone for blind ppl, the buttons are poor quality, the voice is shit, and there's no means of upgrading the speach. it's not worth the money they charge for it. I don't know if it comes with a headset, but it definately doesn't come with blue tooth. it's a crap deal.

Post 7 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 13-Jan-2006 8:02:35

My gall, how badly to I want to text message? They both seem like crap deals in a way. What both over $300, with one you can't upgrade, and with the other, if you go for a better phone like everyone else in the world, you have to buy a whole new $300 product. Flippin' rediculous! I'll stick with the lg line for now. Right off the shelf I can use several features, and I got a brilliant deal with rebates. Think I paid $10 for the 2 phones. A little side note, if the owasys interests anyone, apparently T-Mobile will give you $100 back when you joine up.

Post 8 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Friday, 13-Jan-2006 9:36:32

actually if you go for a new phone with talks you just have to pay 100 for a new key. You don't have to pay for a totally new version. the key for talks is tied to the imei number of the phone so it is completely un shareable, wich is good for coppy protection. bad if your trying to share it, grin!

Hi I saw the phone at a state convention and don't mind it. I don't really need blue tooth. I am not sure how the text messaging is as I never tried it, but over all it is a good phone. I am loooking at switching to either teen mobal or skingular in april and that iis one of the phones I am consitoring.

From what I heard from the demo, the text messaging works out pretty well. Dobin, that is pretty cool, it is only another hundred, instead of the whole sh'bang. I'm sort of considering cingular as well.

Post 11 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Saturday, 21-Jan-2006 18:02:17

I actually think the deal isn't bad though. the phone is 300 US I believe, so.. if a basic phone is what someone needs, then they're in luck. I prefer my nokia 6600, but that is not a bad idea at all.

Post 12 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 22-Feb-2006 10:03:44

hahaaa i only just found this again. i got the phone, but now have a different one with talks on it, i did get the 6600 phone.

I actually sent my Oasys phone back with a nasty little letter telling RNIB how rubbish it was, and to take it off sale immediately. You can't understand the speech, it has a dodgy speaker, it doesn't have a screen, it's fat, chunky and heavy, so doesn't fit easily in your pocket and it's hardly got anything on there, apart from a phone book, text messaging and it works like a normal phone. God, I might as well use my landline.

Post 14 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 25-Mar-2006 16:23:31

The lack of a screen is apparently one of its selling points. I'm quite happy with Talks and my Nokia 6620. I'd be even happer with whatever phone has since replaced the 6620 though.

Post 15 by bmisch (Veteran Zoner) on Sunday, 04-Jun-2006 13:49:40

Hey guys. I was listening to some stuff on screenlessphone.com and from what i heard, they're are going to see about moving to eloquence or decTalk. I also heard that the phone includes blue tooth capability but it isn't currently enabled in the software. Just letting you guys know.

I want to mention the one nice thing about the 22c phone that knowone else has mentioned and that's it's sound quality.
It is the first and only cell phone I've come across that sounds exactly like a land line whether you in a crowded place, a car, or with no background noise.
That's about the only really good point about this phone.
Also I like the fact that the voice comes out the ear piece instead of the hand set, gives you a little more privacy.
The voice can come through the speakers if you prefer it and the speaker phone quality on it isn't bad either.
One bad side to it that has not been mentioned is that it's lousy when it comes to alerting you if you have voice mail or a text message.
It also does not have three-way capabilities.

Post 19 by bmisch (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 05-Jun-2006 22:04:40

do you have one of these phones? and the good thing about the voice coming out the ear piece is when you have a call and check your call id info, it switches back into handset mode, and then tells you who the caller is.

Post 20 by fuzzy101 (The master of fuzz!!) on Monday, 05-Jun-2006 22:54:09

I don't have that particular phone but my fiance does and I've used it from time to time.
I use a nokia 3600 with mobile speak and it works fine except for the occasional lock up.

Post 21 by bmisch (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 06-Jun-2006 11:53:45

I don't have the phone but i think if you activate call waiting, then you'll be able to do 3-way. i'll let you guys know what happens when i get it.

Post 22 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Wednesday, 07-Jun-2006 18:17:28

Don't ever get the Oasys 22C any of you guys who haven't and are considering it. It reminds me of those baby pretend telephones you played with as a child, looks like an old-fashioned TV remote control, has extremely poor sound quality, no WAP and a bloody awful american or scottish, can't tell which, female voice. I was ashamed to take it anywhere with me for the week I had one myself. Now, I have a really cool slimline Nokia 7610 whih I'm hoping now, I can use with Talks 2.0 when Mum eventually lets me buy it.

Post 23 by Dqueen21 (Generic Zoner) on Wednesday, 10-Oct-2007 11:43:20

I'm thinking of getting that Owaisis screenless cell phone because I've been trying to find a Nokia phone that's compatible with Ti-mobile and also I don't feel comfortable buying things online. Anoter about the speech on that phone you could update the software if you get a cable with the phone.

Post 24 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Wednesday, 10-Oct-2007 11:52:14

Aw'w'w, you don't have to buy a Nokia online. hey're available in your carphone warehouse. i started out on a Nokia 7610 with T-Mobile and it worked all right, but then we found this Orange package which was £35 a month, plus however much you spend on downloads and things, so, 14 months after I got the 7610, that was chucked in one of my top junk drawers in my room at home and we got the Nokia N70 Itunes phone with this orange package on it, and I love it.

I think the oasis phone is good for people who want a phone which can send texts and make phone calls and for people who want to add contacts indipendently. For people who only want these features on a phone they couldn't find a better phone which will start talking as soon as you take it out of the box and swich it on.
No downloading of talks, not contacting a dealer etc. But for somebody who want to listen to music on a phone, send email and go on the web they will need one of the nokias with talks or mobile speak.
I think both are good in their own way. It is just a matter of personal preference. I didn't own one myself but i heard reviews and one of my friends had one. I don't mind the fact that it hasn't got a screen as i don't need it but at the moment i wouldn't get it because i want to be able to copy my music on my phone and have mp3 ringtones.
I like the privacy of the oasis phone because the speak comes out of the earpiss unless the user change it.

brrrr doesnt even bear thinking about. Jen is completely right, plus on the one I saw the spech and sound quality was awful, sounded like a radio station being received when its stuck between two others. Distinctly crackly. I think it'd make good firewood though lol.

Its one saving grace is it'd be good for an elderly person or someone who wasn't phone crazy.

I won't pass judgment until I've seen it for myself. I've heard the demonstration of it, and I suppose it'll take some time to adjust to the accent and monotone voice.

Post 28 by Dean (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 22-Oct-2007 16:46:03

its a crap phone on calls it eachos well to much. i'd rather have a phone that sighted people can use as well. means you can show them music. do you really think it would look good getting a big brick out in the middle of the street. it feels so plastic like and well rnib are just awful anyway. i've never really liked them.

Post 29 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 30-Oct-2007 12:13:36

I've had my owasys 22c mobile phone since February and I think it's all right. I get on quite well with it with making phone calls and textmessages on it and I don't care about all the adding music and new ringtones and things to it. I haven't got the headset or handsfree thing for it yet, but might get it soon, because then I can type on the computer and talk on the phone at the same time. I have added all my phone numbers on my own and I'd prefer other people not to be reading my text messages thank you. I know someone who has had their phone for for a while and they find it OK. I do have to turn the volume right up to be able to understand the speech on it and the text message is a bit loud on it, but that's about all, really.

Post 30 by robbiec12345 (Good night and Farewell ) on Saturday, 09-May-2009 14:38:41

well i've had this phone for nearly 2 years and it's great! i don't really need all these features like music player and web browser so it's fine for me. yes, the voice is not that good, but it's understandable. also, u can only change the ringtone for calls, not text messages. apart from that, i like this phone. eventually, when i'm older, i'll probably get a standard phone with talks or something like that though.

Post 31 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 11-May-2009 12:00:45

trust me, it's a worthless piece of shit. Don't buy it because it's a waste of money.

Post 32 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 14-May-2009 15:26:02

Not only that but as I said in another topic, Crapital Accessibility seems to have nonexistent customer service. My friend Marissa has had one for about two years if not longer and it's starting to go on her. Well she's been trying to get a hold of someone at the company for three weeks now, leaving mesages with each call, and no luck. As far as I'm concerned that's totally inexcusable. So I agree. I've never even seen the phone but I've heard enough, both of people's experiences with it and the demos of the phone itself, to know it's not worth the price, especially if you have to move half of heaven and all the earth to get help if something goes wrong with it.
